Toweling Your Bird - Step-by- Step
(Fom An Old Book)
A parrot may be wrapped in a towel to keep it under control, or to protect the person grooming it.
Step 1: Use a towel to match the size of your bird. Large parrots like Macaws need a sheet towel. Medium size birds, such as Cockatoos and Amazons require a bath towel, while a hand towel is best for small birds like Cockatiels. Be sure to towel the bird from behind. This enables you to protect the wings. They should be down at the bird's side, not flapping during toweling.
Step 2: Fold the length of the towel in half. At the top of the fold, make a three-inch fold for a collar.
Step 3: Place the three-inch collar behind the back of the bird's head. Bring one side of the towel over the bird's chest and then fold the other side over the first. Do not cover the bird's face completely with the towel.
Step 4: Keeping the face clear allows room to groom the beak. However, due to the sensitivity of the area, this task is best left to a professional.
Step 5: This toweling method enables you to expose only the bird's feet or wings, by opening a portion of the towel. The towel also protects you from the bird's beak.
