As we all know, it is important to give our little feathered friends fresh fruits and veggies. We are also advised to remove the produce after two hours.
Unfortunately, this is not always possible, especially with working bird owners.
Well last week, along with fresh fruit came an invasion of fresh, feisty, fully-flighted fruit flies.
I tried catching, squishing, fanning, slamming, slapping -- and still fruit flies. I changed cage paper twice a day and still no help.
At my wits end, I went to Home Depot and purchased a "Yellow Jacket - Fly Trap" (the one that looks like a good-sized jar). Into this, I put apple juice, some sugar and a sliced apple and wha-la, the fruit flies were delighted as they flew around in the trap -- and so were Allie, KC, Banjo, Smoozer and Mom and Dad.
From another member, who wishes to remain anonymous: To get rid of fruit flies or white flies that infest some house plants, just cover a piece of bright yellow construction paper with Vaseline and place in your window. Within the hour, all the flies will be stuck to the paper and can be readily disposed.
