Our guest speaker for June is Ivan Kossak, who conducts bird spotting walks in our area. The following is the description he provided of his presentation:
One of the things that initially drew me to birding was the variety of avian wildlife the can be found in our own area. I used to think that one would have to travel to the Amazon Rain Forest or someplace equally as exotic to see such bright yellows, blues, reds and greens of the birds that either nest, winter or migrate through our area. I am looking forward to sharing some of the colorful birds that can be found locally as well as some of the local "hot spots" where people can go to see them.
I have been an avid birder for about 11 years. I have participated in the World Series of Birding for the past seven years - the first 4 years I captained a statewide team and for the past 3 years have been part of the Hackensack Riverkeeper team. I am Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Hackensack Riverkeeper and write a quarterly bird article for the Hackensack Riverkeeper's "Tidelines" newsletter.
